James Merry’s Embroidery Creations

Artist James Merry, who is based in New York and Iceland (where he lives in a cabin cocooned by lavender lupines), is responsible for some of the most impressive embroidery creations out there.

From a moth-goth mask for the Icelandic pop queen to a glacier flower embroidered on the Nike swoosh, the common thread within this artist’s work is transformation.

He is the man responsible for the bold and delicate lace headpiece worn by Bjork at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York, with swirls of neon and stitched in pearls.

In 2012, he released Anatomies, a book of illustrations fusing the shapes of plants with structures in human bodies, and he recently started to embroider flowers and fungi on classic sportswear.
